Burnt Orange Bridesmaid Dresses

In Bridesmaid Dresses, Bridesmaids, Inspiration, June 2012, Uncategorized on June 7, 2012 at 11:07 pm

One of my friends is engaged, and is frantically trying to locate burnt orange bridesmaid dresses. Turns out it’s harder than you think, so I thought I’d see if I could help her out.

So here’s some dresses that are close in colour for her (and you) to check out!

The wedding is due to take place in Autumn, and I think that those colours are going to look so incredible in some outdoor photos:

Can you just imagine it? I’m a little bit jealous – is it too late to change the date for my wedding?

The Perfect Hat

In 2012, May 2012, Outfits on May 18, 2012 at 8:40 am

To go with my honeymoon outfits, I have been in search of the Perfect Hat.
So far I haven’t had much luck.

The trick is finding one that’s a neutral colour, that isn’t a true cloche hat, but also isn’t super wide rimmed or floppy. Sounds easy, right?

Right.

I’ve discovered the lovely Helen Kaminski, but much as I LOVE some of her designs, I really can’t afford the $100+ pricetags that come with her hat.

Currently, my favourite of her designs is this one:

from Hats Paradise

But I’ve also been looking for cheaper solutions and have come across the following hats:

from Yes Style

I’m actually kinda feeling this one, but I’m not sure about the upturned brim.

I kinda like this one, too.

But since I’m terrible at making up my mind, if anyone has any suggestions about which one I should get, I’d be eternally grateful!!

Vintage Honeymoon Outfits

In 2012, May 2012, Outfits on May 14, 2012 at 11:55 am

Since my fiance and I are doing a river cruise for our honeymoon, I’ve decided to go all the way and wear pretty sundresses basically the whole time we’re away.

As such, I need to track down some pretty dresses. I’ve been scouring the shops for sundresses. I’ve found a few at Harris Scarfe (which I really must take photos of to show you), but I’ve also been eyeing off a few online shops like Unique Vintage (from whence I am hopefully obtaining my travelling dress) and a few others, like Vintage Betty and Covelli. And so far, I’ve seen a couple on Covelli that are on sale! Bonus!

So, without further ado, some pretty, pretty dresses that I’m hoping to find the money to buy:

and

from Brown Beverly dress.

I hope you love them as much as I do. I’d love to hear about any bargains you find!

Flowergirls and Pageboys

In 2012, April 2012, Flower Girls, Outfits, Pageboy on April 8, 2012 at 11:27 am

I’ve been trying to finalise outfits for our flowergirl and pageboy.

Some of you may recall that I was looking at a garland for her to wear in her hair. I’m still not decided, really, but I’ve also seen some gorgeous lace headbands, like this:

from socool_store on ebay.

I’m still not sure if it’s right, but it looks fairly easy to DIY, so I’m trying to convince Dad to get some old lace he had out of storage to see whether I can make it. If so, the possibilities are endless; what else can I cover in lace?

Just as a reminder, this is the dress I’m getting made for my flowergirl:

Also, I think I have finally worked out a suit for our pageboy:

from Not Just Boys’ Suits in the UK. Hopefully postage doesn’t kill me!

Wedding Dress Alternatives

In 2012, March 2012, Outfits, Wedding Dress on March 23, 2012 at 12:52 am

My love affair with Unique Vintage continues as I’ve been checking on the travelling dress I want (to make sure a) they’re still selling it and b) it hasn’t gone on sale. So far, no luck (with the sale at least)). While discovering an amazing 40s style coat with which I am in love

and a pair of bathers that I must have

I came across some gorgeous white dresses that would double as lovely wedding dresses if you were going for a simple vintage style.

Behold, the Ivory Lace Gatsby Wiggle Dress

currently on sale for $142.00

and a Heartbreaker Ivory Francine Dress

currently on sale for $78.

And if those aren’t gorgeous, bargain wedding dresses, then I don’t know what are!

Flowergirl Hair Accessories

In 2011, Bridal Party, Flower Girls, Inspiration, November 2011, Outfits on November 27, 2011 at 12:21 pm

I’ve been trying to work out what kind of hair accessories I was going to give my flower girl. It’s been hard choosing between a headband, clips, flowers, bows, and all sorts of other ideas!

I saw this cute little idea at Online Bridal Store

and I think it would go nicely with the dress I want for her.

Incidentally, this is how I think I want her hair to look:

What do you think?

Birdcage Veil and Headpiece

In 2011, Outfits, September 2011, Veil on September 21, 2011 at 9:46 am

I’ve been trying to create my own headpiece based on this image from Brenda’s Bridal Veils:

Vintage Hairpiece

I bought two flowers, with the idea of practicing on one, and then using the other as the actual hairpiece.

Well, after a few days of playing around with slides, and clips and bobby pins and a miscellany of other ways of fixing the flower in my hair I’ve concluded that 1. it’s harder than it looks and 2. I’m not sure it’s really me.

While I love the idea of the birdcage veil, and may still try to create it just for a few of the professional photographs, I think I’m just going to stick with an elbow length veil for the ceremony, and then be veil-less at the reception.

Now I’ll have to see whether there’s a way to turn the brooch that matches my jewellery into some sort of hairclip…

Houston, We Have Shoes

In 2011, Outfits, Shoes on August 23, 2011 at 11:07 am

As I mentioned way back when I’d found a pair of really cute wedding shoes that I loved

Ginger by Gabriella Rocha

but that neither of the places that stocked them 6pm or Zappos shipped to Australia.

In the end, I resorted to a re-shipping place Ship It To and I was starting to get a bit worried, because their website claims that it usually only takes 2-3 weeks for packages to arrive from their warehouse to Australia, and I had been waiting 33 days.

But, all is well. I arrived home today to find the package sitting on my doorstep, and even better, the shoes fit! I think they’re a tiny bit loose, but by the time I put on stockings and/or pad the shoes, that should be fine. Got to be better than being too small!

So cross another thing off the list. Now I just have to track down a fingertip veil* and lose enough weight to buy the dress and we’ll be almost ready!

*I was hoping to use either my Mum’s or the soon-to-be-Mother-In-Law’s veil as either my something old or something borrowed. If so, this will be sorted, if not I think I’m going to have to start hitting either ebay or etsy.

Bridesmaids Hair

In 2011, August 2011, Bridal Party, Bridesmaids, Inspiration, Outfits on August 14, 2011 at 12:41 pm

I had planned* on having those of my bridesmaids with hair long enough wear a chignon**, and just leave anyone else’s too short hair alone. Beyond that, I hadn’t given much thought to what I would put in it (if anything). I had given some passing thought to (fake) pearl tipped pins, but then I saw this

Flower Hair Clip

at Gold Coast Chic‘s Etsy shop and I thought something similar but in pink might look nice.

Help me decide?

*It seems to me like every one of my posts starts like this. Does it seem that way to you?

**Fancy word for ‘bun’.

Colours: Lavender?

In 2011, Bridal Party, Bridesmaid Dresses, Bridesmaids, Outfits on July 5, 2011 at 8:31 am

I’m trying to work out whether to have my bridesmaids in light pink or in lavender.
This inspiration board on Prima Donna Bride is helping me lean towards lavender, but I’m still not sure.
